Abdullatif Haj Mohammad is an independent investigative journalist and translator, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Artificial Intelligence in Journalism Network – Middle East and North Africa (AIJN-MENA), a media-innovation consultant, and a trainer specialising in the applications of artificial intelligence in journalism. Originally from Syria and now based in Sweden, he also serves on the board of the Swedish Union of Independent Journalists. His career lies at the intersection of journalism, digital ethics, and emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on the ethical, social, and editorial implications of artificial intelligence in the newsroom.
Over recent years, he has collaborated with leading international organisations—including the International Journalists’ Network (IJNet), Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT), Free Press Unlimited (FPU), the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), the Pamela Howard Forum on Crisis Reporting, Fadaat Academy (Qatar), and the Center for Media and Economic Studies (Yemen)—to deliver capacity-building programmes in AI and journalism across the Middle East and North Africa. His workshops foster critical engagement with AI tools, promote data literacy, and encourage the responsible integration of technology into journalistic practice.
Haj Mohammad is a regular keynote speaker at international conferences on the future of journalism, algorithmic accountability, and AI ethics. His reporting and editorial contributions have appeared in respected regional and global outlets, including Al Jazeera Journalism Review, Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), the Middle East Broadcast Network, Swedish Television (SVT), and Swedish Radio (SR). A frequent media commentator, he provides expert analysis on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in the media industry, advocating for journalism that is inclusive, transparent, and resilient in the digital era.
