Statement on the Events in Sweida

At this difficult moment, the Syrian Initiative for Expertise and Development extends its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior, as well as to the families of the civilian victims. We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

What is happening in Sweida is a painful crime that threatens the nation’s security and social fabric. We reaffirm the urgent need to uphold the authority of the state and its institutions, and to reject all forms of violence and armed action outside the rule of law.

We stand with the Syrian state in its efforts to restore stability, and we place our expertise and capacities in service of this goal—to shield Syria from the dangers of chaos and fragmentation.

Syria belongs to all its people… and its unity must remain above all else.
